Maureen Callihoo Ligtvoet is a Cree Mohawk from the Michel First Nation, and has lived her entire life in Treaty 6 Territory. Maureen's background is in Aboriginal Child and Family Services, and she has used that background in the field of Addictions Services and as a Home Visitor and Family Support Program Manager in the greater St. Albert area. Maureen also provides services as an Indigenous Doula to expectant families, and is a fierce advocate for parental autonomy during the birthing process. Maureen is very proud to bring nearly 20 years of experience learning from, and working with Elders and Residential School Survivors to her work as a Blanket Exercise Facilitator in the Greater Edmonton educational and spiritual community. Maureen lends her life experience as an indigenous woman and educator to numerous First Nations, Metis, and Inuit committees and organizations within Sturgeon and Parkland Counties, whose goals are to translate Reconciliation learning’s into Reconciliation practices. Maureen considers her learning journey within the Indigenous community to be a great honour, and a lifetime endeavour.
